Open Positions

Reports to: CTO  |  SwineTech (PigFlow)

Location: Hybrid in Cedar Rapids, IA (3+ days/week in office) or Fully Remote (with 2 team-building trips to HQ per year)

About the Role

SwineTech builds PigFlow, a B2B SaaS platform for swine barn operations. Our stack spans Python, Flutter, React, and SQL/dbt on GCP. The Senior Engineering Manager leads a mid-sized team of software engineers distributed across the US and Mexico, owning delivery, engineering quality, and the growth of the people on the team. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will stay close to the code, contribute directly, and set the technical bar through the work itself—not just from the sidelines.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 6–10 local and remote software engineers across the US and Mexico.
  • Contribute directly to the codebase—shipping features, fixes, and improvements across the PigFlow stack (Python, Flutter, React, SQL/dbt)—as a working member of the team.
  • Perform and champion high-quality code reviews, using them to raise the bar on correctness, simplicity, and maintainability while developing the engineers on the team.
  • Set and uphold technical standards—architecture, testing, and coding practices—by example and through the review process.
  • Determine and define project scope and objectives.
  • Drive thinking and improvements for systems and engineering processes, with simplicity and maintainability as core tenets.
  • Decompose customer-facing and upper-level feature requests into actionable requirements definitions.
  • Predict resources needed to reach objectives and manage them effectively and efficiently.
  • Develop and manage a detailed project schedule and work plan across the PigFlow ecosystem (Python, Flutter, React, SQL/dbt).
  • Provide consistent project updates to stakeholders on strategy, adjustments, and progress.
  • Manage vendor and supplier relationships by assigning tasks and communicating expected deliverables.
  • Measure project and team performance to identify areas for improvement.
  • Act as a mentor to more-junior engineers across relevant domains of engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business, or a related field.
  • 8+ years building software professionally, with recent hands-on experience shipping production code.
  • 3+ years in people management or engineering leadership roles.
  • Strong team management skills, including leading distributed and cross-border teams.
  • Experience with software design and development processes; familiarity with a Python/Flutter/React/SQL stack is a plus.
  • Very strong interpersonal communication (verbal, written, and presentation) skills, with the ability to interact positively and collaboratively across all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to solve problems creatively.
  • Strong familiarity with project management software tools, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Data-driven approach to analyzing and solving problems, with a strong bias for quality and engineering excellence.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and results-oriented.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to complete projects according to outlined scope, budget, and timeline.
  • SaaS experience preferred; AgTech or data-platform experience a plus.
